Limit Test for Heavy Metals, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Lab Manual, PDF, Journal

Limit test Chlorides, Sulphate, Iron, Heavy metals * Identification tests for Anions and Cations * Prep. & std Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Permanganate * Assay Ferrous sulphate, Calcium gluconate, Sodium chloride, Ascorbic acid, Ibuprofen * Determination of Melting point & Boiling point * Preparation Benzoic acid from Benzamide, Picric acid from Phenol * Identification & purity test Aspirin, Caffeine

Aim:

To perform the limit test for Heavy Metals in the given sample as per IP

Apparatus:

Nessler’s Cylinder, Measuring cylinder, Pippet, Stopper, Glass Rod

Chemicals:

Hydrogen Sulphide, Lead Nitrate, Nitric Acid, Dilute Acetic Acid Dilute Ammonia Solution, Sodium Hydroxide, Sulphuric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid

●  Procedure :

The Indian Pharmacopoeia has adopted three methods for the limit test of heavy metals.

Method I

Use for the substance which gives a clear colourless solution under the specific condition.

●  Observation :

The colour produced in the sample solution should not be greater than the standard solution. If the colour produces in the sample solution is less than the standard solution, the sample will pass the limit test of heavy metals and vice versa.

Method II

Observation:

The colour produced in the sample solution should not be greater than the standard solution. If colour produces in the sample solution is less than the standard solution, the sample will pass the limit test of heavy metals and vice versa.

Method III

Use for the substance which gives the clear colourless solution in sodium hydroxide solution.

Observation:

The colour produced in the sample solution should not be greater than the standard solution. If the colour produces in the sample solution is less than the standard solution, the sample will pass the limit test of heavy metals and vice versa.

Result

The Sample—————(Complies / Does not Comply) with the IP limit test for Heavy Metals
