Amid the rising cases of Covid-19 and Omicron variant in the country, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has assessed restriction on import of anticoagulant enoxaparin and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) active pharmaceutical constituents and their phrasings to insure their acceptable force in the domestic request.
The import of enoxaparin ( expression and API) and intravenous immunoglobulin ( expression and API) has been put under confined order with immediate effect, DGFT stated in a indirect on January 10, 2022.
With this, import of these APIs and phrasings requires licence from the DGFT. Before, there were no restrictions on outbound shipments of these products.
Enoxaparin is being used for remedial mitigation of Covid associated coagulopathy (CAC). Cases with Covid-19 are at high threat of developing a venous thromboembolism (VTE). Studies have suggested that enoxaparin significantly reduces venous thromboembolism and is also associated with reduced each- beget mortality.

IVIG is one of the indispensable treatments for Covid-19 cases. It’s considered a remedial option for hyperactive inflammation in cases with severe Covid-19.
It may be recalled that DGFT had on March 3, 2020 put restriction on import of 13 APIs and their phrasings– paracetamol, tinidazole, metronidazole, acyclovir, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, progesterone, chloramphenicol, erythromycin mariners, neomycin, clindamycin mariners, ornidazole with immediate effect and till farther orders to insure their sufficient force in the country.
The directorate had lifted import restrictions on these APIs and phrasings in April 2020.
