Role of WHO in Indian national program

The World Health Organization (WHO) plays an important role in supporting India’s national health programs. Specifically, WHO has been working closely with the Indian government to help address public health challenges in the country and improve the overall health and well-being of its citizens.

Some of the key areas where WHO has been supporting India’s national health program include:

  1. Disease Control: WHO has been providing technical assistance to India’s national health program in the control of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV/AIDS. The organization has also been supporting the implementation of national immunization programs to prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.
  2. Health System Strengthening: WHO has been supporting the Indian government’s efforts to strengthen its health system by providing technical assistance, capacity building, and support for health policies and strategies. The organization has also been helping to improve the quality of health services and promote the use of evidence-based practices.
  3. Emergency Preparedness and Response: WHO has been working with the Indian government to strengthen its capacity for emergency preparedness and response, particularly in the context of natural disasters and disease outbreaks. This includes support for developing emergency response plans, training health workers, and providing technical assistance during emergencies.

Overall, WHO’s role in India’s national health program is to provide technical assistance, support, and guidance to the government in addressing public health challenges, promoting health equity, and improving health outcomes for all.
