Reynolds Number: Flow of Fluids
Reynolds number is a dimensionless number used in fluid mechanics to classify the flow behavior of fluids. Reynold’s number (Re) is the ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces within a fluid. The inertial forces cause the fluid to flow. They favor turbulent flow. Viscous forces resist the flow of fluid. They favor laminar flow. Reynolds number was introduced by Sir George Stokes and it was popularized by Osborne Reynolds.
