Revisit of Drug and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945

Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, Director of General Health Services (Drugs Control Section) have issued a notification from FDA Bhavan, New Delhi on 06.06.2016 regarding revisit of Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1948

The notice suggest that, Ministry of health and Family Welfare has initiated steps to revisit the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1948 to match up with current regulatory requirement related to safety, efficacy and quality of drugs, medical devices and cosmetics

The ministry have requested to give feedback on existing Act, Rules and changes required within 15 dayys to JDC (ER), HQ, CDSCO, FDA Bhavan, New Delhi or email at [email protected]

About Drug and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945:

The Drug and Cosmetics act was passed in 1940 for Regulation of Import, manufacturing and Distribution of drugs in India. The related Drug and Cosmetics Rules 1945 contains the classification of drugs under given schedule

The act consist of five chapters. each chapter relates to particular subject

Chapter I: Introductory part

Chapter II: DTAB, DCC, CDL

Chapter III: Import of Drug and Cosmetics

Chapter IV: Manufacture, Sales and distribution of Drugs and Cosmetics

Chapter IV – A: Provisions related to Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani Drugs

Chapter V: Miscellaneous
