- Direct contact with infected individuals (coughing, sneezing, touching).
- Contact with contaminated surfaces and objects.
- Inhaling respiratory droplets.
Diagnosis:
- Usually based on symptoms and physical examination.
- In some cases, viral tests like rapid antigen tests or PCR tests may be used for confirmation.
Treatment:
- No specific antiviral medication available.
- Focuses on managing symptoms:
- Rest & plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
- Over-the-counter pain relievers for fever and discomfort.
- Eye drops or medications for eye infections.
Prevention:
- Frequent handwashing with soap and water.
- Avoiding close contact with sick individuals.
- Disinfecting frequently touched surfaces.
Complications:
- Usually mild and self-limiting, but serious complications like pneumonia and dehydration can occur in infants, young children, and older adults.
