National health intervention programme for mother and child
India has several national health intervention programs for mothers and children aimed at improving their health outcomes. Some of the key programs include:
Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Program:
This program aims to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity by providing antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal care services, immunizations, and nutrition interventions.
Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS):
ICDS is a comprehensive program that provides a package of services, including supplementary nutrition, immunization, health check-ups, and referral services to children under the age of six years and pregnant and lactating mothers.
National Rural Health Mission (NRHM):
NRHM is a flagship program launched in 2005 that aims to provide accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare to rural areas. It focuses on reducing maternal and child mortality, improving maternal and child health outcomes, and strengthening health infrastructure.
Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Program:
This program aims to improve the reproductive health of women and the health and survival of newborns and children. It provides family planning services, antenatal care, delivery services, postnatal care, and child health services.
Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY):
JSY is a conditional cash transfer scheme that aims to promote institutional deliveries among poor pregnant women. It provides financial assistance to pregnant women for delivery and postnatal care services.
These national health intervention programs for mother and child in India have been instrumental in improving maternal and child health outcomes in the country. However, there is still a lot of work to be done to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to maternal and child health.
