Chickenpox

Chickenpox are also called as varicella. Is a highly contagious disease caused by the initial infection with varicella zoster virus.The disease result in a characteristic skin rash that forms small, itchy blister which eventually scab over. It usually starts on the chest ,back ,and face then spread to the rest of body . 

Other symptoms may include fever ,tiredness, and headaches. Symptoms usually last five to seven days. Complications may occasionally include pneumonia ,inflammation of brain ,and bacterial skin infections.The disease is often more severe in adult than children . symptoms being 10 to 21 days, after exposure to the virus.Symptoms are like, small itchy blisters , headache, loss of appetite .

Usual onset of this disease is 10 to 12 days.after exposure.Mainly cause are varicella zoster virus.Prevention of the chickenpox are varicella vaccine.Medication taken are calamine lotion , paracetamol , aciclocir.

Symptoms on whole body are fatigue,fever, loss of appetite, or malaise.Symptoms on skin are blister , scab, ulcer, or red spots. Also common symptoms are there like headache , itching, sore throat or swollen lymph nodes.

Mainly Cause of this disease is varicella – zoster virus(vzv) .Most cause occur through contact with an infected person . The virus is contagious to those around you for one or two days, before your blister appears . VZV remains contagious until all blister have crushed over.The virus can spread through saliva , coughing , sneezing ,contact with fluid from blister.

Chikenpox is an airbone disease which spread easily through the cough and sneezes of an infected person . It may be spread from one to tow days before the rash appears until all lesions have crushed over.It may also spread through contact with blister .Those with shingles may spread chickenpox to those who are not immune through contact with blister . 

The  disease can usually be diagnosed based on the presenting symptoms however in unusual cases it may be confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (pcr) testing of blister fluid or scab.Testing of antibies may be done to determine if a person is or is not immune. People usually only get chickenpox once.Although reinfection by the virus occur ,these reinfection usually.Do not cause any symptom.                                                                          The varicella vaccine has result in a decrease in the number of Case and complications from disease. Chickenpox occurs in all parts of the world .                                    Before routine immunization the no. of case occurring each year was similar to the number of people born . The first documented use of the term chicken pox was in 1658.

It protects about 70 to 90 percent of people from disease with a greater benefit for serve disease . Routine immunization of children is recommend in many countries. Treatment of those infected may include calamine lotion to help with itching , keeping the fingernails short to decrease injury from scratching.                              The use of paracetamol to help with fever .For those at increase risk of complications antiviral medication such as aciclovir are recommend.

Most of the treatment for chickenpox are aimed at decreasing the symptoms , such as severe itching .A non- aspirin analgesic like acetaminophen ( Tylenol) can be used to decrease and aches.Children should never be given acetyl salicylic acid (aspirin) or aspirin- containing cold medications because of the risk for Reye’s syndrome.( a severe brain disease associated with liver and brain dysfunction and death ).

Frequent oatmeal baths can decrease the itching associated with chicken pox . In addition , soothing lotion and moisturizer such as calamine lotion or any other similar over the counter preparation can be applied to the rash. Diphenhydramine (benedryl ) or other antihistamine can be helpful in controlling the itching . 

The best way to prevent chickenpox is to get the chickenpox vaccine. Children ,adolescent ,and adult should get two doses of chickenpox vaccine. Chickenpox vaccine is very safe and effective at preventing the disease . Most people who gets the vaccine will not get chickenpox.If a vaccinated person does get chickenpox , it is usually mild with fever ,red spot or blister . The chickenpox vaccine prevent almost all cases of severe disease . 

Calamine lotion and colloidal oatmeal baths may help relieve some of the itching . keeping fingers nails trimmed short may help prevent skin infection caused by scratching blister.
